What Does Your Toothpaste Say to Your Thyroid? “Sleep My Pet”

If you use conventional toothpastes every morning and night, you are placing fluoride very close to your thyroid gland which is located near the brain stem. We really need to think about this one! We should stop doing this!
According to the US National Research Council, “several lines of information indicate an effect of fluoride exposure on thyroid function.”
Fluoride’s potential to impair thyroid function is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that — up until the 1970s — European doctors used fluoride as a thyroid-suppressing medication for patients with HYPER-thyroidism (over-active thyroid). Fluoride was utilized because it was found to be effective at reducing the activity of the thyroid gland – even at doses as low as 2 mg/day.
Today, many people living in fluoridated communities are ingesting doses of fluoride (1.6-6.6 mg/day) that fall within the range of doses (2 to 10 mg/day) once used by doctors to reduce thyroid activity in hyperthyroid patients.
While it may be that the thyroid in a patient with hyperthyroidism is particularly susceptible to the anti-thyroid actions of fluoride, there is concern that current fluoride exposures may be playing a role in the widespread incidence of HYPO-thyroidism (under-active thyroid) in the U.S.
Hypothyrodisim, most commonly diagnosed in women over 40, is a serious condition with a diverse range of symptoms including: fatigue, depression, weight gain, hair loss, muscle pains, increased levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL), and heart disease.. The drug (Synthroid) used to treat hypothyroidism is now one of the top five prescribed drugs in the U.S.
As recommended by the US National Research Council: “The effects of fluoride on various aspects of endocrine function should be examined further, particularly with respect to a possible role in the development of several diseases or mental states in the United States.”

Consider the affects of a daily ingestion of fluoride and how it affects us as a society; unexplained fatigue, slow metabolism, feeling bored… a nation of tired kids. It is time to look at our household products and the information that is available to us and make better choices! Back to nature with us all!
Why GardenPlum.com Buys Local & Its Not What You’d Think
I received two packages in the mail today, wow did they hit my joy button! Over the years I have upheld a strict policy to purchase directly from artists in a desire to support them. Little, if nothing comes from China or some other place with a large carbon footprint. But really – the reason why I buy directly from an artist – is because its FUN AND RIGHT!!! It intuitively makes sense!

Rita Lloyd sent me her new book “Unconditional Self Love” which I am reviewing. It is a sequel to her DVD and book on Self Love. LQQk at her playful butterfly stickers! Thanks Rita! (Rita has created her art in part to assist battered women.)

This one made me roar, my retired Celtic Garden Stickmaker is apparently up to something and proud of it!
These are the things that make the difference for me!
Thank you God!

Fire Cider Making Gathering – One of the Great Weapons for the Flu!

Herbal medicine is powerful medicine. But yet it can be gentle. The range of “movement” that herbs can produce within the body are full spectrum. Herbs can whisper a tiny encouragement to the body’s immune system, allowing it to remember how to heal itself. And on the other end of the spectrum, purgatives, diuretics, and others can induce a raging response from the body that quickens the organs into a rapid response; quickly carrying away toxins, pushing them out through the skin, colon, liver, nose, eyes, ears, mouth… and herbs can move bones too, yes its true.
In fact, after years of studying herbs, I do believe that the wild & natural kingdom gives us the ability to manage our entire body systems.
In light of this knowledge of the powerful gifts in our herbal allies, we are having a Fire Cider Gathering Thursday October 1st. A fire cider is on the “rapid response” end of the spectrum of herbal healing, and this fire cider is used for colds and flus, and yes specifically, with H1N1 Swine Flu.
Come and join Jamie Hupfer, holistic mom, earth mama, and herbal enthusiast for a hands on Fire Cider making class. Fire cider is made with onions, garlic, cayenne and some other “energetically moving” foods that can be beneficial for the flu. These ingredients, steeped in an alkalizing vinegar, are an essential part of your home remedy collection. Come for a night of play in the kitchen of Garden Plum Herbals with like minded friends.
All ingredients are provided, please bring your own jar or you may purchase one from the apothecary for $1.

H1N1: There are Herbal Remedies and All Natural Ways to Deal With The Swine Flu

Although we hear about the Swine Flu quite often in the media, from what I can tell, not many people are worried about it affecting them right now. The children are starting to pass colds and flus around now that school has started.
I just wanted to post a public service announcement that there are herbal choices that you can make in dealing with this situation. There are herbalists in every corner of this great nation that know easy, simple, safe and no side-effects methods for dealing with flu season.
Seek an herbalist in your area, we are waiting to serve. There are wise choices that you can make when challenged with public health, vaccinations, and fear.
Lets Address Gentleman’s Quarters!

“Made with Organic Ingredients
as He would have It,
and of a Provocative Scent.”
Today I’d like to share my own personal recipe for a healthy alternative to deodorant! I am making some this morning and bringing it to the Farmer’s Market this afternoon. I’ve just added a smokey (smokin’!) new ingredient: Clary Sage (thank you Lady B for the suggestion).
Clary Sage combined with Patchouli make for a VERY spicy smelling guy, no two bones about it! I’m getting heady just stirring it in the bowl! Come have a smell, or check it out in the e-store. Read the ingredients here on how to make your own healthy deodorant!
Where Wormwood is Strowne…

I’ve always enjoyed mopping my floors with a bucket of steeped Wormwood. The smell is a natural cleansing smell and is said to clean the home of both physical and energetic dirt and debris.
Steep 1/4 c. Wormwood in a pot of boiling water (add rue, mint or lemongrass for added benefit – but this is not necessary). Mop away and enjoy!
The Common Wormwood held a high reputation in medicine among the Ancients. Tusser (1577), in July’s Husbandry, says:
“While Wormwood hath seed get a handful or twaine
To save against March, to make flea to refraine:
Where chamber is sweeped and Wormwood is strowne,
What saver is better (if physick be true)
For places infected than Wormwood and Rue?
It is a comfort for hart and the braine
And therefore to have it it is not in vaine”
An Old Love Charm
On St. Luke’s Day, take marigold flowers, a sprig of marjoram, thyme, and a little Wormwood; dry them before a fire, rub them to powder; then sift it through a fine piece of lawn, and simmer it over a slow fire, adding a small quantity of virgin honey, and vinegar. Anoint yourself with this when you go to bed, saying the following lines three times, and you will dream of your partner “that is to be”: “St. Luke, St. Luke, be kind to me, In dreams let me my true-love see.”
Red Clover On the Harvest Table

Red Clover!
Pictured above is me atop a glorious mountain harvesting baskets and baskets of Certified Organic Red Clover with my friends Annie, Kristen, Sam and Larry.
As a result, it is on sale at $1.78 per oz. We are overloaded with nice pink, dried red clover. We did a fresh harvest this summer at a pristine belted galloway farm in Francestown NH. Red Clover has so many many medicinal uses, such as fertility issues, lung issues…anti-cancer, anti-tumor. I had to shout this out because we have nice pink flowering tops which aren’t always available in whole form! And such a short sustainable carbon footprint, straight from my kitchen to yours. Enjoy!
Please note Red Clover contains phytoestrogens and can have estrogenic like effects.

NEW GOATS MILK SOAP WITH RARE INGREDIENTS!

Did you know some Herbalists and Naturopaths administer medicine through the skin? Consider that your skin is the largest organ in your body. It naturally absorbs what you put on it through the skin cells. What do you put on it? Chemicals, perfumes? All of these things must be transported through the skin and sent to the liver to be flushed out of the body. What if you used this information to give your body essential vitamins, oils and minerals? Its a great way to treat yourself!
Rick and Sheryl Gunn of Clayton’s Way Farm, natives to Garden Plum here in New Hampshire, have handcrafted a wonderful blend of soaps using all natural ingredients and essential oils. We use these soaps personally here at Garden Plum and can attest to their effectiveness. You just “feel good” when you get out of the shower; moisturized and nourished. Administer this fine medicine through the skin for a health benefit that you can feel, guaranteed by us here at Garden Plum. Thank you Rick and Sheryl of Clayton’s Way Farm!

Sweet Pea! Let Go of Your Differences
FLOWER ESSENCE HIGHLIGHT
Sweet Pea flower, isn’t she lovely? Look at how the blooms trickle down one from the other. Kind of like one generation blooming after another. It looks like a family of blooms going on here.
It is no coincidence that Sweet Pea is for those of us that feel disconnected from people. Those of us that have no feeling of home. It is recommended, for one example, for those who moved often during childhood. It is for the wanderlust or perpetual pilgrim that constantly feels like an outsider.
We are all in the genus called human, and the sooner we see the commonalities between us as opposed to the differences, the closer we are to P E A C E. Let Sweet Pea be part of the bridge to being home.
We Are One! Its Official.

Green Greetings! I haven’t blogged in a while as the harvest season is upon us and my Farmers’ Market is overflowing with food and a sense of community! Which brings me to the point of my blog post. I can feel the Oneness. In between the grumble and complaint, after the body ache or the spilled milk, the Oneness is really becoming apparent these past few months.
My final confirmation beautifully and blatantly pulled up in my driveway last week (pic above). What a confirmation! We Are One! (and I live in Weare, We-are).
This is the way to Peace, to see yourself in others. To know that what one is experiencing, you may have already experienced, may experience in the future, or could be experiencing simultaneously. Does it seem easier to step into someone else’s shoes these days? To recognize others’ perspectives? Is it more often that you have compassion and understanding than not? Do you judge less? Its not hard to feel the Oneness, its really quite simple. I continue to hold that prayer in my heart.
