I was having some energy work done yesterday when a big ol’ bee buzzed by my ear and through the kitchen. He was humungous, and out in October no less?! I thanked him for haulng his cold body up by my head in the cold kitchen to bring me a message not unnoticed.
So I’ve been studying up on Bee Medicine & Bee Totems and will draw bee on one of my blank medicine cards to add to my hand-drawn, hand-intuited cards as part of my Medicine Cards deck by Jamie Sams.
BEE MEDICINE
In Cherokee: (wadulisi nvwati)
MEANING: Hard Work, Community, Communication
Bee People are learning to be diligent, industrious and to work cooperatively within their own community. Bee may have come to you regarding the community of your family, co-workers or humanity.
Bee serves a very important purpose for the environment as a whole by pollinating flowering plants; therefore they are called pollinators, which means they transfer pollen from the stamen of a flower to the tip of the flower. Their treat is the nectar within the plant. Their role is vital to the environment. There are some types of bees that may be solitary, although most bees live in various sorts of communities (families). The most advanced colonies are found among the honeybees and stingless bees.
When Bee medicine grabs your attention it is reminding you to work within your community or family and to do your part. Bee is a hard-worker and each Bee is dependent on the next to support the entire hive community. Bee is mostly concerned with the needs of her intricate hive family. The bee community runs easily and effortlessly due to the perfected communication between all of its members by way of the “waggle dance” or “dance language.” Bee will communicate what she has found in the flowering plants to other bees in order to recruit worker bees of the hive to forage in the same area.
Bee’s message is about communication, working hard and doing your part to aid the community in which you are a part. There is reward for such hard work, which is enjoying the fruits of your labor . . . Nectar!

THE BEES DISAPPEARED TO MAKE US LOOK CLOSER
The bee energy totally makes sense as I’m in my numerological Year #3 (year of the social butterfly) and just moved into farm country where you can’t go 100 feet without borrowing a tractor or swapping eggs for salsa.
The bee energy reminds me of the recent government bailout. Working as a community is the way things used to work before the wars and the industrial revolution. Since then, wee have moved to a more commercial Wall St. scenario, where the people paying the money for work, are not associated with the beeworkers at all. The bees are merely slaves to the people paying the money. Is it any wonder that the bees have disappeared, died, fallen victim to virus… just as the people have in this modern economy? Was the phenomenom of the bee villages dying off in large amounts, disappearing, and disbanding – a foretelling of what was to happen to the village of the people?
I’m watching how the world evolves through the bailout and the falling out of money… it was depicted in the Mayan Calendar that the Modern Banking System would collapse by the year 2012. Were the bees trying to send us this message?
I think communal living will be a large part of the transition our economy is undergoing, and am planning the gardens next year accordingly – half herbs, half food. I have already planned to swap the food for eggs from my friend Dianne (Goat Mommy) who I met last week.
I feel strongly, as many other women I have talked to recently, that it is time to open back up to each other, for the sake of survival. When I make a neighbor a friend, you can’t believe the joy they feel in that, like they have been sequestered to silence for a thousand years. Whether its a virtual neighbor, an email buddy, or a physical neighbor – it is time to reach out.

You nailed it, especially in the last two sentences. I’ve been an extremely shy person all my life, and in an effort to reach beyond it I have gone through programs and done more of a self-study regarding people’s minds and emotions. I have found that even though there are more people on the planet than ever, people are lonelier than ever. There is plenty of talking, but not really any connecting.
As I have learned to connect, I find that people are exactly as you describe: “you can’t believe the joy they feel in that, like they have been sequestered to silence for a thousand years.” I’m glad that you’ve learned how to connect, and not just to talk. I know that’s already brightened up your community!
I’m also glad you say the economy is transitioning. THANK YOU! I get so tired of the doomsday headlines.
